How We Care for You at LISM
Most clinics treat the label — arthritis, IT band syndrome, hypertension. We treat the person behind it. At LISM, we ask what created that label in the first place, and we work backward from there. Your health is not a collection of isolated parts; it is a living ecosystem, and lasting wellness happens only when every layer is addressed, from the ground up.
By mapping your care through the Soil, the Root, the Trunk, and the Branch, we make sure that whatever brings you through our doors, your whole body is prepared to heal, prevent disease, and sustain performance.
The LISM Tree
We think of your health as a tree. Every layer matters — and lasting wellness starts from the ground up.
01SoilYour Daily Foundational Habits
“If the soil is depleted, nothing can thrive.”
Your nutrition, sleep, stress levels, mindset, and daily environment are your physical soil. These are not lifestyle extras — they are the conditions that determine whether healing, prevention, and vitality are even possible.
Whether you are managing diabetes, recovering from an injury, navigating burnout, or simply trying to feel better in your daily life, the soil is always where we begin. And wherever your soil is today, there is zero judgment here — we meet you exactly where you are. From there, we work together to shift your system into a state capable of true repair, regulation, and performance, building the best possible soil for your unique life. It doesn't need to be textbook-perfect; it needs to be right for you.
02RootYour Inner Resilience
“The strength of the tree depends on the power of its roots.”
Your roots are your deeper biology — how your cells produce energy, how your autonomic nervous system responds to stress, and what Eastern medicine calls Yuan Qi: your innate, original life force. That may sound a little "woo" — but a growing body of evidence-based research backs it up. Each of us is born with a unique cellular baseline. It is part of why some people develop heart disease, diabetes, or chronic fatigue early in life despite doing everything right — and why others seem to bounce back from almost anything.
Our work at this level is to strengthen that baseline: regulating your nervous system, quieting systemic inflammation, and restoring your cells' capacity to generate energy. When the roots hold real power, your body can absorb nutrients, respond to treatment, and sustain its health for the long term. Where clinically appropriate, targeted supplementation and Medical Acupuncture may play a precise role here — not as general wellness tools, but as specific interventions at a specific layer of your health.
03TrunkYour Body's Healing Pathways
“Strong roots mean little if their strength cannot travel.”
The trunk is your body's internal highway — the nerves, blood vessels, and fascial planes that coordinate movement, regulate metabolism, and deliver circulation to where it is needed. When this highway is blocked or impaired, healing stalls — even when the foundation beneath it is strong. The chronic tendinopathy that refuses to heal. The insulin resistance that persists despite better habits. The pain, fatigue, or dysfunction that lingers even when everything else is in order. This is where the trunk comes in.
For many patients, optimizing the Soil and the Root is enough to restore full health. But when localized blockages or functional impairments persist despite a strong foundation, we may incorporate — when clinically indicated — Medical Acupuncture, targeted supplementation, and rehabilitative therapy to clear those pathways and restore your body's natural capacity to heal.
04BranchAcute Injuries, Illness & Structural Care
“A tree lives through its branches — each one deserves to heal.”
The branch is the specific problem that brings you through our doors — the sports injury, the arthritic knee, the diabetes that remains poorly controlled despite your best efforts, the sudden illness or cardiovascular event that needs immediate attention. Sometimes life simply happens, and a branch breaks.
When the body needs structural support, I draw on targeted conventional interventions — regenerative options, pharmaceuticals, medical bracing, immobilization, or referral to a trusted surgical specialist when indicated. These are not last resorts. They are precise tools, chosen deliberately and used with intention.
When appropriate, Medical Acupuncture may also be incorporated as part of your care — easing pain, improving circulation, and supporting recovery.
Treating the branch well is not separate from whole-person care. It is an essential part of it.
At LISM, we move fluidly across every layer of your health. We address acute needs at the Branch, reopen healing pathways at the Trunk, optimize your cellular foundation at the Root, and cultivate the daily habits at the Soil.
Whether you come to us injured, unwell, or simply ready to live better — that is the difference between temporary relief and lasting human performance.
Interested in Working Together?
At LISM, there are no insurance companies in the room. We spend time on you — not on paperwork or someone else's agenda. Just you and your doctor, with the time, focus, and full clinical toolkit to treat you as a whole person — and a direct line of communication that never goes through a middleman.
This is a cash-based direct primary care practice, which means every cost is known before your visit, every decision is made by your physician, and every tool that the doctor is trained in is available when it genuinely serves your health. No hidden costs. No surprise invoices. No middlemen.
We welcome patients ages 10 and up — from youth athletes navigating their first sports injury to active adults looking to optimize performance, managing chronic conditions or simply looking for a physician who will treat them as a whole person.
Direct doctor access, priority scheduling, and a dedicated advocate for your long-term health — with no insurance middlemen involved.
Best for individuals seeking an expert diagnostic second opinion, an acute sports injury evaluation, or a highly specialized, non-surgical intervention while maintaining their current primary care setup.
What Brings People to LISM
Systemic Health & Metabolic Care
For patients managing chronic conditions or seeking to optimize their long-term health from the inside out.
Metabolic Health Optimization
Insulin resistance, Type 2 Diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and PCOS don't appear overnight — and they don't have to be permanent. We look at the upstream drivers: sleep, stress, nutrition, hormones, and movement. From there, treatment is personalized — lifestyle changes, nutritional strategies, targeted supplementation, and medication when appropriate, always with the goal of reducing dependence on it over time.
Cardiovascular Foundations
Managing hypertension, hyperlipidemia, early heart disease, and related conditions requires more than a prescription. The cardiovascular system responds powerfully to the right inputs — movement, stress reduction, sleep, autonomic regulation, and specific integrative interventions. I use evidence-based lifestyle medicine alongside botanicals, supplementation, mind-body approaches, and medical acupuncture for autonomic regulation, combined with pharmaceutical therapy when clinically indicated. The goal is a cardiovascular system that is genuinely resilient, not just numerically controlled.
Weight, Body Composition & Physical Performance
This is where my background in Sports Medicine and Exercise Physiology changes what's possible. Most weight management programs treat the body as a simple input-output equation. It isn't. We assess metabolic efficiency, hormonal contributors, musculoskeletal barriers to movement, cardiovascular fitness capacity, and the neurological patterns that drive appetite and behavior. Care may include precise, individualized exercise prescription — not generic advice, but a structured program based on your physiology — alongside pharmaceutical options for appetite regulation, integrative tools, and targeted treatment of the injuries or structural limitations that have kept you sedentary. This approach is for patients who want to lose weight, but equally for those who want to move better, perform better, and age with their strength intact.
Autonomic & Nervous System Balance
Chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression, unmanaged stress, disordered sleep, and systemic burnout are not character flaws or inevitable features of modern life. They are physiological states — and they are addressable. Using a combination of pharmaceutical support when appropriate, medical acupuncture for direct autonomic regulation, mind-body medicine, and evidence-based supplementation, I work to restore the nervous system's natural equilibrium. For many patients, this is the work that makes everything else possible.
Sports Medicine & Musculoskeletal Care
For patients dealing with injuries, chronic joint pain, or structural problems affecting their movement and quality of life.
Acute Sports & Athletic Injuries & Fracture Care
Prompt evaluation and management for muscle strains (hamstring, quad, groin), ligament sprains, acute joint trauma, and non-displaced fractures of the fingers, toes, wrist, and foot. I support youth athletes (ages 10+), weekend warriors, and elite competitors recovering from acute trauma or tracking early-stage stress fractures. For younger athletes in particular, growth plate integrity, overuse patterns, and the risks of early sports specialization are always part of the clinical picture — not an afterthought.
Chronic Joint Pain & Arthritis
Long-term management for osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, shoulder, ankle, and thumb (basal joint arthritis). The goal is not simply pain reduction — it is preserving your ability to move, compete, and function at the level that matters to you.
Tendon & Ligament Disorders (Overuse Injuries)
Targeted healing for chronic wear-and-tear conditions affecting your movement. Upper extremity conditions include tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, rotator cuff tendinopathy, shoulder impingement, calcific tendinopathy, and biceps tendonitis. Lower extremity conditions include plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, patellar tendinopathy, shin splints, and IT band syndrome. Treatment integrates both conventional sports medicine and integrative approaches — including medical acupuncture — to address not just the site of pain but the movement patterns and load demands driving it.
Nerve Entrapments & Myofascial Pain
Diagnosis and targeted intervention for localized trigger points, chronic muscle spasms, and radiating discomfort. I utilize ultrasound-guided hydrodissection and medical acupuncture to release entrapped nerves and resolve deep muscular dysfunction — including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Cubital Tunnel Syndrome, and lumbar and cervical radiculopathy.
When the Imaging Is Normal But the Pain Is Real
If you have been told your results look fine but you are still hurting, you are not imagining it — and you are not out of options. Pain is complex. Sometimes the source is structural — a problem that standard static imaging simply cannot capture. Dynamic, real-time diagnostic ultrasound evaluates tissue in motion, revealing mechanical root causes that conventional workups routinely miss. But sometimes the pain is not purely structural at all. Chronic pain can involve central and peripheral sensitization — a state in which the nervous system itself becomes hypersensitive, amplifying pain signals independent of tissue damage. This is where a two-pronged approach becomes essential: conventional diagnostic precision combined with integrative intervention. Medical acupuncture plays a meaningful role here, working directly on the nervous system to down-regulate sensitization, restore normal pain processing, and address what imaging alone will never show.
Sports Medicine Related Medical Conditions & Performance Health
For active individuals, athletes, and anyone who wants to perform at their best — whether you are managing a condition limiting your participation, or simply ready to invest in how well you age and perform.
Exercise-Induced Asthma & Bronchoconstriction (EIB)
Respiratory limitation during exertion is more common than most athletes realize, and it is frequently misattributed to poor fitness or inadequate conditioning. Accurate diagnosis and targeted management can meaningfully restore exercise capacity and quality of athletic participation.
Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S)
A condition in which chronic underfueling — whether intentional or not — quietly disrupts hormonal balance, bone density, immune function, menstrual health, and athletic performance, often for years before it is identified. Particularly prevalent in endurance athletes, female athletes, and those with high training loads and insufficient nutritional awareness. RED-S is one of the most underdiagnosed conditions in active individuals, and one of the most consequential when left unaddressed.
Overtraining Syndrome
When training load consistently exceeds recovery capacity, the body enters a state of systemic physiological burnout that goes well beyond ordinary fatigue. Performance plateaus, mood deteriorates, sleep quality drops, and injury risk climbs. With my background in exercise physiology, I assess training structure, recovery markers, and load management with a clinical precision that generic fatigue workups typically miss — and build a path back to performance that doesn't repeat the same mistakes.
Bone Stress Injuries
Stress reactions and stress fractures driven not only by mechanical overload but by nutritional deficiency, hormonal disruption, and low energy availability — particularly in the context of RED-S. Early identification through clinical assessment prevents progression to complete fracture and prolonged time away from sport.
Sport-Related Concussion
Evaluation, individualized return-to-play protocol development, and ongoing management of concussion in athletes of all ages and levels — including youth athletes, where the stakes of premature return are highest and the neurological margin for error is smallest.
Anemia & Iron Deficiency in Athletes
One of the most commonly overlooked performance limiters, particularly in endurance athletes and female athletes. Fatigue, declining output, and poor recovery that resist conventional explanation frequently trace back to suboptimal iron stores — even when standard labs appear borderline normal. Identifying and correcting this can produce some of the most dramatic performance recoveries I see in clinical practice.
Exertional Heat Illness
Evaluation and management of heat exhaustion and exertional heat stroke, alongside individualized prevention strategies for athletes training or competing in high heat and humidity environments.
Longevity, Healthspan & Performance Optimization
For patients who aren't injured or ill — but want to perform at the highest level their biology allows and sustain it as they age. We combine metabolic testing, precise exercise prescription, and recovery science to optimize how your body performs today and holds up over the decades ahead. Proactive, precision medicine — not sick care.
